A pregnant woman was shot in the abdomen at a New Year’s party in Canyon Country in Santa Clarita, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, and her unborn child were taken to a hospital and were both in stable condition, Santa Clarita Police Sgt. Dmitry Barkon said.

Officers responded to Florabunda Road in Canyon Country at 1:54 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, and found a woman had been shot during the gathering. She was believed to be about 21 weeks pregnant, Barkon said.

No one has been arrested.

“Detectives are still on scene and we’re investigating,” Barkon said. “It appears the suspect may have fled prior to deputies arriving.”

Police do not know if the victim knew the suspect or if the shooting resulted from an altercation.
