With the printing of 94 and a half million electoral ballots, the last stage of the revocation of mandate of the Mexican president began yesterday, a peculiar democratic process which will be carried out for the first time in Mexico’s history.

The electoral material, which will be printed at the Graphic Workshops of the Nation, is expected to be ready on March 10 and will be complemented with the electronic votes of Mexicans residing abroad, particularly those who live in California, where more than 4 million potential voters are currently residing.

“It is a historic day because it will be the first time that Mexican men and women will be able to decide on the continuity of the president prior to the conclusion of his term,” said Abraham Zurita, director of Graphic Workshops of the Nation, highlighting the role that this body has served for over two decades to guarantee democracy.

At the act, the main authority of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Cordova, confirmed that the revocation of the mandate will be carried out in accordance with the new Mexican constitutional norm, which brought various controversies and public confrontations in the previous weeks.

“Although it is public knowledge that the INE did not receive the requested budget, this does not mean that the ballots for the revocation of the mandate will be vulnerable, in no way,” Cordova assured.

For the Mexican community residing in California, this is an excellent opportunity to participate in the political decisions of their country of origin, said the director of the Center for Latin American Studies, Sebastián Larios.

“We have registered that there is an interest that could define the permanence of President López Obrador, which requires the participation of 40 percent of the electoral roll, which would be about 37 million votes. And in this scenario, the millions of migrants in the US could have the key that validates this process”, stressed Larios.

The question that voters must answer is “Do you agree that Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of the United States of Mexico, have his mandate revoked due to loss of confidence, or continue in the presidency of the republic until his term ends?”, and as an answer on the ballot they will have two options:

1) That his mandate be revoked due to loss of confidence.

2) That he continues in the presidency of the Republic.
