A Los Angeles police officer was shot and injured on Sunday evening in Granada Hills in an incident involving a man causing a disturbance in a grocery store, according to the LAPD.

The incident was reported about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in a shopping center at Balboa Boulevard and Devonshire Street, the LAPD said.

Officers responding to the disturbance were advised the man had a gun.

“Officers entered the store and confronted the suspect. After making contact with the suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred. One officer was struck by gunfire. The suspect fled the store and went into another business in the area,” LAPD said in a tweet.

The officer was taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. According to the LAPD, the officer is believed to have been injured in the arm.

The LAPD said the suspect was arrested at a nearby business and had not been struck by gunfire. He was hospitalized for a medical evaluation.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, the LAPD said.

Video footage from a news helicopter showed a shirtless man being taken into custody outside of convenience store. Video reportedly taken by a bystander prior to the shooting and spread on Twitter showed a man dancing on top of an aisle in a Ralphs grocery store, as a group of officers entered the business.
