2 dead, 1 in critical condition after shooting at Villa Parke in Pasadena

A shooting in the area of Villa Parke in Pasadena on Tuesday afternoon left two men dead and one other hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

Pasadena police received a call about shots fired in the vicinity of the park just before 3 p.m., said Lt. William Grisafe, a police spokesman.

Officers arrived at the north side of the park on Parke Street, where they found three men, in their 30s to 40s, with gunshot wounds, lying near picnic benches next to the park’s soccer field, Grisafe said.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, Grisafe said, while paramedics transported two men to a local hospital in critical condition. One of the wounded men died Tuesday evening of his injuries at the hospital, while the third man remained in critical condition.

The identities of the deceased men will not be publicly available until officials notify their families.

Police urged the public to avoid the streets surrounding the park — Parke Street, East Villa Street and Los Robles Avenue — while investigators surveyed the scene.

Detectives said they believe a suspect or suspects opened fire on the victims and then left.

A witness told officers of a dark-colored sedan leaving the area around the time of the shooting, Grisafe said.

Police said they did not have a description of an assailant. A motive for the shooting remained unclear Tuesday evening.

The park was the scene of several shootings in pervious years, including a shooting in Jan. 2015 when an assailant opened fire on two men playing cards, killing one and wounding the other.
